Legislation is enacted in Australia. From 22nd June 2022, if you manufacture, or are in possession or control of products containing button batteries and you offer them for supply to or in Australia, they must comply with the relevant Standard.
The legislation prescribes that consumer goods containing button/coin batteries have a secure battery compartment and do not release the batteries during reasonably foreseeable use or misuse conditions, regardless of whether the batteries are intended to be replaceable.
The legislation also enforces labelling and information standards. Specifically, “Consumer Goods (Products Containing Button/Coin Batteries) Information Standard 2020”. All suppliers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers should familiarise themselves with these labelling requirements.
